Man arrested after a brief chase

Sheriff's deputies arrested a Denmark man Wednesday after a brief chase that followed a traffic stop on Neely Station Road and Tenn. 223, according to a news release.

Janssen F. Patrick, 45, of Neely Station Road in Denmark, has been charged with evading arrest, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, simple possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, possession of Schedule II with intent, driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest.

Deputies stopped Patrick's pickup truck on a violation of the light law on Neely Station Road and Tenn. 223 at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.

The release said Patrick got out of the truck and ran into the woods behind the residence at 28 Neely Station Road. Deputies were able to make contact with him when an altercation ensued.

Patrick sustained injuries and was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, where he was treated and admitted.

The release said Madison County deputies were treated and released. The investigation is continuing.

Bredesen announces local airport grants

Gov. Phil Bredesen announced grants this week for Gibson County Airport and Robert Sibley Airport in McNairy County.

The Gibson County Airport will receive $675,000 for a new T-hangar, according to a news release.

The airport in McNairy County will get $43,200 to design a corporate hangar.

The grants are made available through the Tennessee Department of Transportation's Aeronautics Division.

Psychology meeting is today in Memphis

The 13th annual Mid-South Psychology Conference will be held today in the FedEx Institute of Technology on the University of Memphis campus.

The conference is co-sponsored each year by Lambuth University, Christian Brothers University and the University of Memphis. The conference rotates among the three campuses.

This year's conference title is "Psychology's Role in Hope and Healing," according to a news release.

Keynote speaker is Dr. Charles Blaha, professor in the U of M department of psychology and visiting professor and director of the Deep Brain Stimulation Consortium at The Mayo Clinic. His topic is "Hope and Healing: New Neurosurgical Approaches to Treating Neuropsychiatric Disorders."
