Adlerian psychology summer school Posted: 19 Dec 2010 12:28 AM PST The 2011 edition of the annual Adlerian Psychology Summer School offered by the International Committee of Adlerian Summer Schools and Institutes (Icassi) will be held in Switzerland between July 24 and August 5. During these two weeks, over 20 expert psychologists, psychiatrists, educators, social workers, counsellors and other professionals will be running courses for beginners, educators, parents, mental health professionals and all those seeking empowerment and self-growth. There will be courses on art therapy, self-awareness, conflict management, psychodrama, dealing with everyday fam-ily challenges, individual psychology at the workplace, trauma – recovery and growth, fam-ily counselling, spirituality, addictions, group dynamics and others. Participation usually means meeting and working with people from all over the world, making it a multi-cultural, enriching experience. Workshops are also organised for children and youth. Many people dream of having an opportunity in their life that would make a marked, positive difference in themselves, their family, their social relationships or their work. That dream has become a reality for those who have attended an Icassi summer school. Psychiatrist Alfred Adler called his school of thought Individual Psychology (IP) to stress the unity of the personality. Some of his basic concepts highlight that man is a social being, capable of making decisions often influenced by childhood understanding of self, others and the world. He once said "the science of the mind can only have for its proper goal the understanding of human nature by every human being, and through its use, brings peace to every human soul". IP points out that behaviour is goal-directed and that the pull of the future is stronger than past experiences. IP sheds a different perspective on the way we understand ourselves, and others, especially children. IP also offers varied paths and techniques that help parents, educators, and other professional deal with daily interactions and challenges in a positive way.
